Leaving Thailand May 2008

After almost 1 year of having Equus on the hard we launched our floating home and headed back to sea. She is much shinier than a year ago, our sailing kitty has taken a substantial hit and besides the emotional toll this refit has taken on us, we are happy to be living back on board again.
This was a tough year and maybe I will elaborate more on that in a future post, however this is a quick happy post of what is new with us.
We officially checked out of Thailand on April 29, 2008, and after some last minute tasks to complete we left Ao Chalong harbor, Thailand and headed south. The weather had already started to change and there were days we thought the monsoon season was in full swing; it rained 24 hours straight. Which was good because we learned where all our new leaks were and we did have a few. After all its a boat! We arrived in Telaga Harbor, Malaysia, http://www.telagaharbour.com/and officially checked in May 11th, 2008.

Even though we are not on anchor right now we are back in familiar territory, being at a berth in Royal Langkawi Yacht Club, http://www.langkawiyachtclub.com/ where we started in Asia 2 years ago. We are getting our new watermaker installed - well let me rephrase that Steve is installing our new watermaker and I am his gofer. So needless to say he is a busy boy re- plumbing and rewiring our new - improved system, so I thought I would do a quick update on our blog.
We sent our old watermaker down in January with some friends on their catamaran, heading to Langkawi. Rolf Dreher, http://www.sourcewatermakers.com/ who has a watermaker and maintenance business in Langkawi, and Kate (his wife) have lived on the island for 10+ years. Kate runs a charter business and also looks after boats. They live in RLYC on a sv called Shnukelputz. Rolf was able to use some of our Sea Recovery bits to build us a system much like the Spectra system. This will be a welcomed change in systems, we have had many problems with Sea Recovery's proprietary system.
Tonight we are planning on having dinner with some old friends we have not seen since the Red Sea, Alev and Richard. We did a lot of buddy boating with them through the Sudan and Eritrea. It will be good to catch up.
I have included a little video from Richard. It is about one of his passions he has worked on for years. Can dinghies fly? He did get to realize his dream, however soon after his flight part of the system was ruined due to exposure of salt water. I hope you enjoy his video as much as we did. One of his other passions is collecting sea shells. He has over 600 different shells he collected them mostly from Germany to Asia. He took his collection to a museum in Germany and he had more shells from these areas than they had in their collection. They are all photographed and given the proper names and numbers, it is an amazing collection that he carries on his boat, Muggerl. He is my main shell man!

Well gonna close for now, I need to be looking for airplane tickets home for our annual visit to see family and friends in the USA. We hope to leave by the middle of June, 2008. Monsoon season will be in full swing by then, so we think that is a good time to leave Malaysia. Love to you all, Patricia and Steve
